Match Report Vs Pontian

16 May 2014 by Para Hills East

For the Easties second home game of the season the lads were looking to reverse the disappointing loss from the previous week to Fulham Gardens.
It was to be a careful possession game built around holding the ball and patience. After only 8 minutes the Pontians midfielder broke free and in plenty of space let loose a tremendous volley from over 30 yards out that started to dip under the crossbar only to see Plowman tip it over the bar at full stretch going backward; if this was a warning of things to come this was an ominous sign for the home team. Alas it was not as this was the only real shot the visitors had in the whole of the first half !

Shane Winter was having an excellent game cutting across the pitch playing behind the strikers and after some great work forced a corner which was crossed to the back post where Ratsy headed it back across the goals for Drodgy to nod into the top corner on 10 minutes. A great team goal. Easties were in control and increased their lead on 20 minutes when an Andy Saggs corner was knocked in at close range by Smudger. With Mozzie on the left and Gibbo on the right the chances were coming at regular intervals and both Drodgy and Smudger headed over from crosses. The Pontian ‘keeper made a good save from point blank range to hold the score at 2-0 going in to half time. 11 shots to the Pontians 1 showed the domination the Easties had on the game.

After previously surrendering a half time lead at Fulham the coach laid down the plans for the second half and it as to be another totally one-sided affair with more good work from Drodgy down the right squaring the ball for Azza to tap in his second and the Easties third. At this point the game was effectively over with only 2 shots for Plowman to deal with he may as well of brought a book to read. The back line of Ratsy, Chris, Mark and Briggo looked and were impenetrable as these were all rock solid. After making a series of quick changes after the 80 minute mark Bradley Smith took no time in getting onto the score sheet when he stealthily sneaked in between the keeper and the defender to glance a deft header past the on-coming keeper for a comfortable 4-0 lead.

As the visitors held on waiting for the final whistle Brad took the ball through the right side of the midfield and threaded through a neat ball to Mozzie who’s first touch took it past the defender then slotted it away for a comprehensive 5-0 win against what must be classed as a lack lustre Pontian Eagles side. A staggering 19 shots for 5 goals compared to just 3 showed how one-sided this game was.

The Eagles were gracious in defeat and the Easties joyous with their second win of the season.

Next week is the first round of the Cup which sees the team at home to the Titans who languish at the bottom of division one in the Saturday league.
